The psychology of dentist fear

View All Posts

Fearing the dentist is actually a recognized psychological phobia called odontophobia or dentophoboa. Research estimates that as much as 75 percent of adults experience some degree of anxiety or fear when it comes to dental visits. These fears are usually rooted in scary experiences that we may have had as children. Many times, we don’t even remember the particulars of those experiences as adults. Yet, they linger and can mean a lack of attention to oral hygiene for those most affected.

Dental phobias, if very severe, can be treated through a variety of psychological therapies and having a positive dental experience can go a long way in relieving these feelings of anxiety.

Positive dental experiences are what The Landing Dental Spa does best. Let us help you calm your fears and begin overcoming your phobia. We pride ourselves in offering the Morgantown area the most relaxing dental environment possible. Our services include several comforting and complementary amentias like heated massage chairs, neck pillows, spa music and more. Call us today to schedule your next appointment.
